The term “Affiliate marketing” crops up all over the internet at the moment. It seems that it’s the latest big thing in online money making and there’s always someone trying to get involved with it in some way or another, so what is affiliate marketing, Is it just another flash-in-the pan thing, and does it actually work?
Affiliate marketing refers to an agreement between a business which has things to sell and another business or an individual who will help them to sell the product for a cut of the profit. Affiliate marketing doesn’t necessarily always happen online, but these days the term “affiliate marketing” usually refers to the online version. The actual product or service being sold can be anything at all and they range from website hosting to dog training courses and everything in-between.

Digital products are commonly affiliate marketed for several reasons. They take the form of download-able ebooks, video, audio or combined media courses, so they’re very easy to sell instantly online. Because they’re purely digital, they also have very large profit margins, meaning that the person who sells and distributes the product can offer much larger commission rates - 75% percent commission on the whole selling price isn’t unusual for digital products!
When people ask “What is affiliate marketing?” they often learn about the affiliate programs of various digital products first, and this can indeed be a very good place to start. However, physical products can also be very profitable and shouldn’t be overlooked when considering an affiliate marketing campaign.
The Affiliate Marketing Pitfalls - Avoid At All Costs
I mentioned above that affiliate marketing isn’t without it’s pitfalls. Although it’s easy to get started with, it isn’t so easy to start making good money with it unless you’ve really spent the time learning how to make it work. In fact, many people spend money when they start out, give up early on, and never learn how to make it work for them. This is unfortunate, because anyone can learn affiliate marketing with the right tuition, and there’s no need to spend money to get started!

There are tons of affiliate marketing courses available. Sadly, the majority of these will not help a total beginner to get started, as they’re either too advanced or - more commonly - not written by people who know what to do or how to teach. Because the internet and affiliate marketing industry is now making so much money, people are beginning to take advantage of those who are new to it. Please be careful when buying educational products for affiliate marketing.
